The House of 4711 sits proudly in the heart of Cologne. The most recent redesign in 2017 emphasised our traditional roots and close connection to the city, as well as our passion for innovation and modernity. For a long time, the perfume house has been more than just a space to sell products. It is also a museum, conference venue and event location for meetings, fragrance seminars, fragrance menus, concerts and cultural events.
Venture into the World of 4711
Nothing is more quintessentially 4711 than the iconic Bremen blue shade which adorns the entire interior of the perfume house. The handcrafted Gobelin tapestry hanging in the entrance area is one of our emblems, telling the story how 4711 got its name. In the 18th century, a French cavalryman allocated this number to our building. If you need refreshment after so many sensory impressions, you will find just that at our popular fragrance fountain, from which the 4711 Original Eau de Cologne bubbles.
Experience the fragrance of history upstairs
Follow the 4711 cult: In the museum, exhibits such as old products, images and vintage bottle shapes give an exciting insight into times gone by. From the gallery there is also a unique, close-up view of the chandelier, crafted from 108 empty 4711 flacons. At Christmas time, you'll also find the largest Advent wreath in Cologne hanging here. A room full of possibilities: the fragrance bar
At the heart of the house, you are enticed into a world of sensory wonder where your nose, palate and soul guide your experience of 4711 – the fragrance bar. Our fragrance seminars take place at the long, conference table made of solid wood where visitors create their personal cologne to take away. Individual tables on the left and right invite you to delight in our culinary fragrance menus, a four-course extravaganza making fragrances tangible. Floating, Gothic windows divide the room into individual areas and provide an architectural talking point. The combination of natural stone, brass, powder-coated steel and wood give the room its multi-layered character.
The exterior architecture also unites past and present
The Neo-Gothic facade is based on the original building which was destroyed by bombing in the Second World War. It is another reminder of the centuries-old history of the 4711 brand – which elegantly bridges the gap between tradition and modernity. The newly constructed shop window is a space to present fragrances and decorations, inspired by iconic, traditional department stores. Any time between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., it's worth standing in front of the facade on the hour to hear the well-known chimes of the house's 20 bells.
The perfect place to experience 4711
A passer-by glancing at the House of 4711 from the outside sees a Cologne building, steeped in tradition, with barely a hint, at first, of what awaits within... A modern flagship store that is reminiscent of an atelier or a manufactory and offers versatile ways to experience 4711. We are delighted to offer visitors from all over the world a real stage for fragrances and Eaux de Cologne so they can experience them with all their senses.
Due to the current circumstances, the House 4711 remains closed.
